VITA is a training, running and meal planning app made by Siddharth, an independent developer in India. This policy explains what VITA collects, why, where it goes and the choices you have. We keep it short and we don't sell your data. Ever.
The short version
Most of what you put into VITA (your workouts, runs, meals, photos and watch data) stays on your phone.
Your account details are stored in VITA's database so we can recognise you and reach you.
When you talk to VITA (the AI coach), your message and a summary of your plan are sent to our server and to Anthropic, the company that makes the AI model, to write the reply.
We don't sell your data, show ads, or share it for marketing.
What we collect
Account: your name, mobile number and email, plus your gender, age, height, weight, goals and how you like to train. These are saved in VITA's database (Supabase, servers in Mumbai, India).
Training and food: workouts, sets and weights, runs, Hyrox sessions, meals you tick off, injuries or pain you tell VITA about, and your check-ins. These stay on your phone.
Runs: while you record a run, VITA uses your location to measure distance, pace and your route. The route is saved on your phone only.
Finding your gym: if you tap "Find gyms near me", your approximate location is sent to OpenStreetMap's public map service to list nearby gyms. It is not stored.
Photos: progress photos you add stay on your phone.
Apple Health and Health Connect: if you connect them, VITA reads (never writes) your sleep, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, steps and calories burned, to work out how recovered you are. This data stays on your phone. Only a short recovery summary (like "Well recovered, 78/100") may be included when you talk to VITA.
Microphone and speech recognition: used only when you tap the mic to speak to VITA. Your phone's own speech service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) turns your words into text, and only that text is sent to VITA, the same as if you had typed it. If you turn on "Hey VITA", the app listens for its name only while it's open on your screen, on your phone where the phone supports it, and only what you say after "Hey VITA" is sent. We don't keep recordings.
Notifications: reminders and nudges are scheduled on your phone. No one else sees them.
Talking to VITA (the AI coach)
When you send VITA a message, ask about an injury, or look up a whey protein, we send your message and the parts of your plan it needs (profile, workouts, meals, history, injuries and settings) to our server, hosted by Expo (EAS Hosting), which passes it to Anthropic's Claude model to write the reply.
Our server doesn't keep a copy of your messages. Anthropic processes them under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to use them to train its models, and may keep them for a short time for safety and abuse checks.
Your chat history is saved on your phone. You can clear it any time in the VITA chat.
Why we use it
To build and adjust your training and meal plans, track your progress, send reminders you turned on, answer your questions, keep VITA working and safe, and contact you about your account.
We never use your data for advertising, and never sell or rent it to anyone.
Who we share it with
Only the services VITA runs on: Supabase (account database), Expo (app updates and our server), Anthropic (the AI coach), Apple and Google (app stores and notifications), and OpenStreetMap (gym search). Each one only gets what it needs to do its job.
We'll share data if the law requires it, for example a valid order from an Indian court or authority.
How long we keep it
Account details are kept while you have a VITA account. Ask us to delete them and we'll do it within 30 days.
Everything on your phone is removed when you tap "Start over" on the You page or delete the app.
Your rights and choices
You can see and change your details on the You page. To get a copy of your account data, correct it or delete it, email hello@getvitaapp.com. We'll answer within 30 days.
You can turn off notifications, location, microphone, photos and Health access any time in your phone's settings. VITA keeps working without them, with fewer features.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also withdraw your consent and raise a complaint with us first, and then with the Data Protection Board of India.
Safety
Data sent to and from VITA is encrypted (HTTPS). The database only accepts new sign-ups from the app; it can't be read with the app's key.
No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your phone locked.
Children
VITA is for people aged 13 and over. If you're under 18, please use VITA only with a parent's or guardian's permission. If we learn we hold data of a child without that permission, we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and ask you to agree again in the app if the change matters.
